Joseph Hasten has made a name for himself as one of the most prominent cello pedagogues in Germany. Numerous former students are now successful professional musicians and have won prizes at major international music competitions such as the Lutoslawski Competition, Dotzauer and Servais Competitions and Pierre Fournier Award.
Born in Arizona, USA, Joseph Hasten studied at the University of New Mexico and the College-Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati, Ohio. He then completed his cello studies at the International Menuhin Music Academy in Gstaad, Switzerland with Pierre Fournier and Yehudi Menuhin. Joseph Hasten has performed and taught throughout Europe, both as a cellist and as a lecturer in chamber music.
Through Joseph Hasten's intensive teaching activities in Tübingen as well as in Stuttgart, first prizes have been regularly awarded at the nation youth competition in Germany (Jugend Musiziert).
In the last few years, numerous first prizes were given to Mr. Hasten's students in the categories cello solo and chamber music. Parallel to teaching, he is also a passionate ensemble leader. Mr. Hasten is the leader of the Tübingen music school's chamber orchestra as well as the prestigious cello ensemble ± 12Vc, which have performed in many competitions that have lead to various concert activities.
